Knuckle and Brush Guards: Are they useful?

Knuckle guards or brush guards refer to the attachments that adventure bikes generally have fitted on the extremities of the handlebar. They are also called hand guards in local parlance. These guards were originally designed to help protect the fingers of the rider while riding off the road through vegetation.
However, they also serve very well on the road, where they can 1. Protect the rider's hands during a fall or a scrape with other vehicles. 2. Protect the motorcycle's clutch and brake levers during a fall. Such protection is critical as broken clutch and brake levers can make the motorcycle inoperable, and quite unsafe to ride. 3. Give the rider's hands some wind protection during colder climate. Given these advantages, a lot of motorcyclists who ride both within the city and on the highway are opting for knuckle guards.
While we now understand that knuckle or brush guards are a useful accessory to have in terms of protection, picking the right kind of knuckle guard is essential. In the market, there are two major types of knuckle or hand guards: Ones that are fully made of plastic and ones that have a plastic outer layer with the underbone made of metal. Among the two, picking the one that has a metal underbone works best if protection is what you're looking at. Such knuckle guards can not only take impacts and protect your motorcycle's levers, but also will give your hands some cold weather protection. On the other hand, knuckle guards that are made only of plastic will not offer any impact resistance and are likely to break off during a fall, leaving the clutch and brake levers exposed to impact. Plastic knuckle guards do offer weather protection and mild abrasion resistance while riding off the road.
We will be back with exciting events after COVID-19.
