Indian roads are fraught with dangers, especially after dark. So, it’s best that you park for the day and avoid riding at night. However, if it’s critical to ride at night, here are some tips that will help you ride safer.
Rest well. Prior to undertaking the night ride, make sure you’re well rested. A well-rested mind and body will be alert and also not drowse off after a couple of hours.
Make sure that your motorcycle is in good shape for the night ride as you’re unlikely to find help to fix mechanical and electrical issues at night.
Eat light. A light stomach translates into an alert mind. Too much food is likely to make you drowsy.
A good pair of auxiliary lamps can be a life saver. Vision is everything in motorcycling, and having an extra pair of lights goes a long way in ensuring that you’re able to see obstacles before actually coming close to them.
SLOW down. While most people drive or ride at night to avoid traffic, speeding through the night is a very bad idea as visibility is much lower. So, it’s important that you cut speed by at least 20 percent while riding at night. If you’re slower, you will have more time to react.
Pull over if you’re drowsy, and sleep for a while if you should. Petrol bunks and toll plazas are good places to catch some sleep. Do not hesitate, as drowsiness is a precursor to sleep. Continuing to ride on can make the situation very dangerous as you can fall asleep without even realizing.
We will be back with exciting events after COVID-19.
