Being physically fit for competitive sports is a challenge in itself, but soldiering on even with injuries trying to pull you down requires a very high level of mental fitness as well. Rugved Barguje from the TVS Racing team is one such gritty youngster. A 19-year-old Barguje has already endured more than a dozen injuries over the past couple of years, but that hasn’t stopped him from going all out and giving his best every single time. As the championships resume, Rugved tells us about his dreams and ambitions as the COVID-related restrictions are slowly being lifted. Having been in the business of motorsports for more than six years now, Rugved is all fired up to win podiums with TVS Racing as the much-awaited racing season commences.

1) How did you start your motorsports career?

Ever since I was a child, I always wanted to race. My dad has also been into motorsports for a long time and even my brothers have been racing since they were kids. With such familial influence and my own inclination towards the sport, you can say that my developing an interest in motorsports was inevitable, and I'm glad that I have taken this up as my full-time vocation.

Post the COVID lockdown, I have resumed my training in full swing, and it is going in line with the plan. I intend to participate in upcoming events early next year and have been preparing for them rigorously.

2) Who has been the greatest motivation for you in your journey till now?

My father has always been, and will always be my greatest motivation. He keeps no stone unturned in addressing all my current and foreseeable career related issues. He is among the pivotal reasons behind me taking up and succeeding in motorsports.

3) What kind of daily activities do you undertake with regards to your fitness training?

I start my day early and train for around 3-4 hours in the morning. My daily training also includes 50 km of cycling and swimming which helps me attain higher levels of concentration, while also helping me strengthen my core. A majority of my daily activities are dedicated directly or indirectly towards my training regime, including fitness training or working towards attaining higher technical knowledge regarding motorcycles or learning new riding techniques.

Generally speaking, my routine comprises early morning training sessions followed by some saddle time. As the day progresses, we undertake activities which ensure core-strength building and train towards attaining a fit and focused mindset.

4) How do you monitor your diet?

I have a fitness coach and a fitness trainer appointed by TVS Racing, who help me with my diet. My father also makes sure he is monitoring my entire diet plan and makes necessary changes while continuously being in touch with my fitness coach.

5) How has motorsport changed your life?

Motorsport has given me a reason in life. It has always been my biggest priority, and has given me a positive outlet to focus my energies at. Having been in the motorsports community for more than six years, I believe it has helped me grow as an individual and has made me a true competitor in life.

6) What is your motto in life?

My motto in life is to work hard towards achieving my goals. I like to work towards my betterment and that has been my motto ever since I started pursuing competitive motorsports. It helps me focus and keeps my vision clear. With every step forward, I know I'm moving closer towards attaining my goal.

7) What are the goals/ milestones you are preparing for?

I want to represent my country at an international level and win podiums. I want to make my nation and my dad proud, be known globally as an Indian rider and put our country on the global motorsports map. I will be participating in DMX (Dubai Motocross Club Championship) and have been practicing for the same. Apart from DMX, I'm also preparing for the MRF National Championship and the 2021 Asian Championship.

8) How is your experience of being a part of the TVS Racing team?

Being associated with the TVS Racing team has helped me a lot. We are provided with all the necessary infrastructure and training which helps us grow as a rider. TVS Racing has always ensured that we get the best. I have been assigned a fitness coach who helps curate my daily schedule and makes sure I am headed in the right direction. TVS Racing has made sure that the riders are provided with the best of what’s available, befitting for elite international athletes. Having a variety of senior, experienced international riders around allows us to understand the game better and has proven to be a major boon for me ever since I joined the TVS Racing team. I am glad to be a part of the team and am looking forward to winning more podiums and making everyone proud.
