Group riding can be great fun, and a means to make friends for life. However, few things need to be kept in mind before you go on a group ride. Here’s a quick primer on pre-ride tips.
Meet offline, ideally with the entire group in attendance
A group ride is likely to have regulars, and many new entrants. To get everyone in the group to know each other, it’s important to have a pre-ride meet, ideally a week before the actual ride. This meet can be used to socialize, and decide many crucial aspects about the upcoming group ride.
Decide on the leader, and sweeper
During the meet, it’s important to decide on who will lead the ride, and on who will act as the sweeper bringing up the rear of the formation. Usually, these roles are to be assigned to the most experienced of riders.
Plan the ride
Plan out the ride: from where it’ll originate, to the route it’l take, way points or breaks if any, and finally the destination. If there are accommodation bookings and dining involved, it’ll be a good idea to plan budgets and options during this stage.
Figure out a way of communicating during the ride
While riding in a group, communication is critical. Ideally, the entire group should have Bluetooth earpieces that seamlessly help the group communicate during the ride.
Make sure all motorcycles are ready for the ride
Finally, every rider in the group must ensure that her or his motorcycle is ready for the group ride in mechanical and electrical terms. From tyres and fueling to luggage and electricals, motorcycles need to generally be in good shape for the ride.
We will be back with exciting events after COVID-19.
