The bikes we race are the bikes we sell"— is what we promise the buyers of our Apache range of performance motorcycles. And we live by these words. The chance to burn serious rubber on tarmac is what attracted over 40 TVS Apache owners to the Kochi edition of the Apache Racing Experience [ARE] held last Sunday (21st February, 2021) at the Adlux International Convention Center in Kochi, Kerala. With ARE, TVS Apache owners get to crank-up their game under professional supervision and controlled conditions. Beyond the thrills, the participants go back as better riders, both on and off the racetrack. Champion riders help you better your best The first session began with a dash of TVS Racing history followed by introductions to its champion riders Jagan, Deepak, Ahamed and Harry Silvestre, who boast more than 20 individual championship titles. Two of them put the Apache owners through a rigorous theory session where they got to learn more about their motorcycles and crucial riding skills such as using the front brake for most of the braking, using engine braking, riding posture, and counter steering cornering, vision. The Apache Racing Experience was on. It was post-lunch that the moment the enthusiastic participants were waiting for - experiencing the specially set-up track on their Apache motorcycles - was nearly here. The participants were provided safety gear by TVS Racing if required. A couple of practice runs—with two TVS Racing champions on the kerb-side to guide them—and everyone was ready to fire on all cylinders. The Apache owners were divided into three groups of 18, 9 and 13 racers, based on the cubic capacity of their motorcycles. The 160cc Apache owners were bunched together with the 180cc owners, while 200cc and 310cc Apache owners had their respective groups. And then, the flag dropped, and the racing began. Each of the three groups got to race on the track for three laps each. The timings of all participants were noted, and the three fastest members of each of the racing groups got medals and certificates. The rest left happily with a wonderful Sunday experience that involved gaining valuable riding skills, the thrill of motor racing, and of course, many happy memories. Well, where do we begin. For one, it's a safe way to explore the limits of what the TVS Apache range of motorcycles can do on a racetrack, as well as racing skills such as engine braking, focusing on the front brake for most of the braking, counter-steering and the correct riding posture. Secondly, all safety precautions were followed, and there was an ambulance with a medical officer on standby. Of course, riders had to sign an indemnity form. And finally, they go to put-to-pedal all the theory they were taught. What next? TVS Racing will conduct the ARE at Chennai, which also happens to host one of the country's oldest tracks - the MMRT (Madras Motor Race Track).
