Motorcycles cross 1 lakh mark a month, up 42%,Total two wheeler records 1,62,200 units
 
Riding on the strong demand for its motorcycles, TVS Motor Company reported its highest ever-sales performance in a single month. Motorcycles for the first time crossed the 1-lakh mark by recording 1,06,972 units in the month of September 2006 compared to 75,310 units recorded during the same period last year, at a growth of 42%.

The overall two wheelers sales of the company too saw a sharp increase and broke the record of its highest ever sales by clocking 1,62,200 units compared to 121,108 units sold during the same period last year. The overall two-wheeler growth stood at a healthy 34%.The company has far exceeded the industry growth since April 2006 and has substantially improved its market share in motorcycles as well as overall two wheelers.

The strong motorcycle growth can be attributed to the continued demand in the last month's top selling brand in the economy segment, TVS StaR City and the number two brand of the Premium Segment, TVS Apache.

The company recently unveiled TVS StaR City Electric Start (ES) version to its dealers and has begun its supplies to key markets. TVS StaR City ES is the first 100 cc motorcycle with Electric Start making it the most affordable motorcycle considering its features. Apache too in a short period of time has earned the distinction of being the number 1 brand in customer satisfaction in a survey conducted by TNS Automotive.

TVS Scooty sales stood at 24,890 units in September 2006 compared to 22,697 units in the same period last year, recording a growth of 10%. The company will soon launch a 2-stroke variant of the Scooty brand.

In the export front too the company saw a sterling performance by recording 10,339 units in September 2006 at a growth of 38% compared to the same period last year.
