TVS Motor Company posts 13% growth in Motorcycles Sales in January 2009

Challenging the effects of the ongoing economic slowdown, continued lack of retail credit and high interest rates, TVS Motor Company has posted a growth of 13% in motorcycle sales while registering total two wheeler sales of 93,729 units in January 2009 against 93,385 units in the corresponding period of the previous year. Cumulative growth for the current financial year since April 2008 stood at 2%.

The Company exported 14,000 units of two wheelers in January 2009 as against 13,108 units in the corresponding period of the previous year, registering a growth of 7%. Exports continued its overall growth trend, registering 44% increase in cumulative sales for the period April 2008 to January 2009 when compared to the same period of the previous year.

Motorcycle sales of the company stood at 43,990 units in comparison to 38,961 units recorded in January 2008, an increase of 13% over the same period of the previous year. Cumulative motorcycle sales for the period April 2008 to January 2009 registered 4% growth when compared to the same period of the previous year.

During the month, the company, in keeping with its intention to lead innovation in the scooter segment, launched the all new Stylish and Futuristic TVS Scooty Streak. TVS Motor Company was conferred the Good Advertising award in the two wheeler segment at the Apollo Tyres Auto India Best Brands Survey Awards. The uniqueness of  these awards is that the winners were chosen based on responses of readers of Auto India and Business India as well as leading opinion makers of the automobile industry. The survey was conducted by MARS on behalf of the Business India Group.
