TVS Motor Company records 4% growth in motorcycles in March 05

TVS Motor Company's total two wheeler sales in March 2005 stood at 106,218 units compared to 1,00,591 units in the same period last year.

The total motorcycle sales in March 2005 stood at 64,273 units compared to 62,060 units in the same period last year recording a 4% increase. During the same period the four stroke motorcycles of the company grew by 30%.

TVS StaR was launched in March 05 in West Bengal, Kerala and Karnataka and it is now available across the country. In addition, a variant of TVS StaR 'Deluxe' was launched in select urban and semi urban markets, which will soon be available in more towns. The company is ramping up production of TVS StaR to meet the demand. The TVS Victor GLX and Victor GX too have shown encouraging results.

The Scooterette sales recorded 18,135 units in March 2005 compared to 15,512 units recorded last year recording a growth of 17%. In addition to the new campaign for TVS Scooty Pep Splash Collection featuring Priety Zinta, the brand has tied up with Cafe Coffee Day for promotional activities. TVS Motor Company continues to dominate the market in the sub 100 cc Scooterette segment.

The Moped sales stood at 23,810 units in March 2005 compared to 23,019 units in the same period last year. TVS Motor Company continues to maintain its market leadership in this segment.

TVS Motor Company closed the financial year 2004-05 by clocking 1,167,550 two wheelers compared to 1,114,861 units recorded in the financial year 2003-04. This is the third consecutive year that the company has crossed over One Million two wheelers sales mark.

In the export front, TVS Motor Company recorded highest ever sales exporting 6,332 units in March 2005 recording a growth of 101% compared to the same period last year.

Highlights of Financial year 2004-05

Ø The company launched two motorcycles during the year namely TVS StaR and TVS Victor GLX 125 CC. In addition a variant of Victor GX 110 CC with 'duralife' engine and a style variant of  TVS StaR 'Deluxe' was launched.

Ø The company sold 679,536 motorcycles during 2004-05 compared to 706,558 motorcycles in 2003-04. However, the four stroke motorcycles recorded a growth of 13%.

Ø The Scooterette sales recorded 224,621 units compared to 1,89,238 units last year, registering 19% growth. The company continues to maintain its leadership in the sub 100 cc segment

Ø A total of 263,393 mopeds were sold during the year compared to 251,065 the previous year. TVS Motor Company continues to maintain its market leadership in the moped segment and has performed well compared to the industry

Ø TVS Motor Company recorded the highest ever export sales by clocking 49,060 units, a 75% increase over last year.
