TVS Motor posts 6% growth in June 2009

TVS Motor Company has posted 6% growth in June 2009, registering total two wheeler sales of 115,448 units against 109,082 units in the corresponding period of the previous year. Domestic sales of the company registered a growth of 12% clocking 1,05,361 units in June 2009 as against 94,072 in the corresponding period of the previous year. The company continued its positive growth trend, registering 5% growth for the period April to June 2009.

Scooters witnessed a quantum increase, recording 21% growth in sales at 25,945 units in June 2009 when compared to 21,466 units in the corresponding period of the previous year. Total motorcycle sales of the company stood at 46,048 units in June 2009 when compared to 51,409 units recorded in June 2008.

Exports however, continued to be affected with sales of 10,087 units of two wheelers in June 2009 as against 15,010 units in the corresponding period of the previous year.

During the month, the company added two new motorcycles to its portfolio with the Apache RTR 180 in the premium segment and the 2009 model of TVS Flame, under the brand name TVS Flame SR 125 in the executive segment.

Developed with AVL Austria, the TVS Flame SR 125 is propelled by a three valve engine that is tuned to the ideal tumble-swirl port combination such that city riding on this machine is really smooth and comfortable. The engine's hi-tumble reduces the need for constant gear shifting while the swirl port returns optimum mileage. The TVS Flame SR 125 is equipped with an electric start, weighs about 123 kgs, has a top speed at 95 kmph and churns out 10.5 bhp @ 7500 rpm.

The TVS Apache RTR 180 is an innovative blend of revolutionary technology and sporty design with an oversquare engine that is programmed to whip up an astonishing 17.3 PS (PS) making it one of the most powerful bike in its class on Indian roads. The bike has a top speed of 125kph with a 0 to 60kph timing of just 4.15 seconds. Stylish alloys, unique grab rails, chiseled fuel tank, front and rear petal disc brakes seamlessly coalesce to make the Apache RTR 180 a spectacular and trendy motorcycle.

These new launches are expected to further increase sales in their respective segments.
