TVS Motor Sales at 89,500 units in August 2004

TVS Motor Company's total two wheeler sales in August 2004 stood at 89,500 units compared to 101,320 units, during the same period last year. The drop in sales was primarily due to the weeklong truckers strike, hindering supplies to various parts of the country.

Despite the truckers strike, the total motorcycle sales in August 2004 stood at 49,020 units compared to 62,234 units in the same period last year. The sale of two stroke motorcycles continued to decline. The launch of entry-level 4-stroke motorcycle during festival season will help TVS Motor Company to consolidate its motorcycle sales.

TVS Centra, the motorcycle with phenomenal mileage crossed the one-lakh mark in quick time thanks to the success of the 'Mileage Challenge', a promotional activity conducted in various towns that proved its mileage capability to be the best among all two wheelers in India. The company's recent launch of Victor GLX 125 too has received good response across all regions. Excellent Advertising backed by promotional activities will spiral the demand for Victor GLX in the coming months.

The Scooterette sales witnessed a steady growth clocking 18,576 units in August 2004 compared to 17,446 units last year. TVS Scooty brand continues to be the market leader in the Scooterette segment.

Moped sales stood at 21,904 units in August 2004 compared to 21,640 units in the same period last year. The company continues to enjoy market leadership in the moped segment.

In the export front, TVS Motor Company continued its good performance having exported 4,454 units in August 2004, recording a growth of 72% compared to the same period last year.
