TVS Motorcycle sales up 23%

TVS Motor Company has reported a 23% rise in motorcycle sales in May 2006, selling 78,271 units compared with 63,585 units of motorcycles sold in May 2005.

Significant growth in motorcycles boosted overall two-wheeler sales in May 2006, which stood at 124,678 units compared to 106,914 units during May 2005, a growth of 17%.

TVS StaR continues to be the star performer for the company and has crossed the 7,00,000 sales mark.

Riding high on the style and design quotient, TVS Apache, the new 150 cc, 5-gear sensation has met with wide acceptance amongst youth and upwardly mobile professionals who are looking for a stylish and sporty bike with better handling, ride quality and performance. Apache is the winner of several bike of the year awards from reputed organizations and has also won BBC TopGear's 'Best design of the year award'. With a view to meet increase in demand, the company continues to ramp up its production.

TVS Scooty continues to be the market leader in the sub 100 cc scooter segment recording sales volume of 20,396 units in May 2006 compared to 20,454 units last year during the same period.

On the export front, TVS Motor Company exported 8552 units, it's highest ever, in May 2006 recording a growth of 36 % compared to the corresponding period last year.

According to a recent study by Boston Consulting Group and the Confederation of Indian Industries, TVS is among the list of 100 companies chosen from 12 rapidly developing economies that are emerging as global challengers.
