Braking right is the critical to riding safely—for bikes don’t just have to stop in time but also retain balance [as opposed to four-wheelers that are intrinsically balanced]. We have already discussed situations which demand front or rear brakes deployment.
Today, we look at two chief situations where you should use the front and rear brakes of the motorcycle:
Braking in low traction conditions. In conditions where the traction is low - sand, wet roads, and gravel, and such like - it’s best to use the front and rear brakes in tandem for the best braking performance. In case you have a motorcycle equipped with single or dual channel ABS, like most of the TVS Apaches sold in India, you can slam the brakes hard and come to a rest safely.
Slowing down quickly. It’s best to use both the brakes to slow down a motorcycle, and come to a halt in the most controlled way possible.
We will be back with exciting events after COVID-19.
