Long, extensive rides typically involve higher speeds, a lot of highway riding with a varied set of vehicles as fellow road users, unknown road imperfections and unforeseen situations. It goes without saying that riding gear is an absolute must for such rides. For those who need a clearer picture on why riding gear is so essential for long rides, the following reasons should make things clearer.
Safety
As highway speeds involve greater risk to bodily harm in case of a crash, it’s absolutely critical that you are well protected. A high quality full-face crash helmet, gloves, riding jacket with elbow, chest and back protection, riding pants, knee protection and riding boots make up the basic safety gear for long rides.
Fatigue reduction and weather protection
Long distance riding brings with it fatigue as the rider is exposed to constant wind, heat, cold, sound and sometimes rain. Riding gear serves as a layer of insulation between the rider and the elements of nature. This insulation can greatly reduce fatigue. For instance, a good quality helmet will filter out road noise to a considerable extent while the gloves will ensure that the fingers don’t get too cold while riding in chilly weather. Likewise, a rain-proof riding jacket and riding pants will make riding in wet weather a comfortable experience. All in all, riding gear not only increases safety but also boosts comfort and convenience.
We will be back with exciting events after COVID-19.
