How did TVS solve the E20 Equation?

Ethanol is known to corrode several materials commonly found in conventional fuel systems. All the fuel lines, seals, gaskets, and the fuel tank are now corrosion-resistant. So, they don’t swell, leak, or degrade over the vehicle's life.

TVS has recalibrated the engine control unit for air-fuel ratio and ignition timing, specific to E20. NTORQ’s factory ECU code has been remapped to fuel the injector pulse accurately. The ignition timing has been optimised to match the altered combustion speed of E20 fuel, to protect the engine’s 3-valve cylinder head.
- 3. Revised Fuel Delivery System
Ethanol has a different burn characteristic as it has a lower boiling point, making it prone to moisture vapour locking. NTORQ’s fuel assembly has been upgraded to compress and push fuel through delivery lines at a higher, more consistent pressure. Ultimately, preventing the gas bubble from forming in the lines.
- 4. Sensor Upgrade
Oxygen and fuel sensors feed real-time data to the ECU so it can fine-tune combustion. Ethanol blended petrol changes how these sensors read and respond to pure petrol.
The latest OBD-2B compliance, NTORQ 125, features onboard diagnostics software to track combustion. If an improper fuel blend or water contamination causes a misfire, the system immediately flags a malfunction indicator light to prevent permanent damage to internal parts.

Why is the Govt Rolling Out E20 Petrol?
The government has multiple elements in its calculation for the nationwide push of ethanol-blended petrol (E20).
- • Lowering the oil import bill – India imports more than 80% of its crude oil from abroad; scaling E20 blended fuel substitutes a portion of imported crude, saving billions of Rupees in foreign exchange.
- • Energy Independence – Ethanol is derived from sugarcane and maize, which are processed in refineries. India has both the agricultural scale and fuel refining capacity to build a self-sustaining energy ecosystem.
- • Emission Control – Ethanol contains extra oxygen, leading to cleaner combustion, reduced harmful pollutants and a cut in overall emissions by up to 40%.
