TVS Motor clocks 42% increase in domestic sales, grows 34% in December 2009
Motorcycles increase 24% and scooters contribute 45% growth
Buoyed by a robust increase in scooter and
motorcycle sales, TVS Motor Company registered significant growth of 34% in
December 2009, registering total two wheeler sales of 1,19,701 units against
89,285 units in the corresponding period of the previous year. The company's
cumulative growth therefore stood at 10 % with sales of 1,109,054 units in
the current financial year up to December 2009 against 1,006,724 units in
the same period last year. Domestic sales of the company witnessed a steady
increase in sales posting 42 % growth with sales of 1,02,479 units in
December 2009 as against 72,355 units in the corresponding period of the
previous year.
Motorcycle sales witnessed 24% increase in sales registering 49,560 units in
December 2009 when compared to 40,057 units recorded in December 2008.The
company's scooter sales grew by 45 % with sales of 21,566 units when
compared to 14,912 units in the corresponding period of the previous year.
Showing signs of recovery, exports recorded a marginal growth of 2%
registering sales of 17,222 units of two wheelers in December 2009 as
against 16,930 units in the corresponding period of the previous year.
The newly launched TVS Jive, which was made available in Tamilnadu during
the month of December 2009 has received good response from that market and
will be made available across the country in a phased manner beginning
January / February 2010.
Sales of three wheelers stood at 1212 units in the month of December 2009 as
against 321 units registered in December 2008. Cumulative three wheeler
sales for the period April to December 2009 stood at 8,707 units.
During the month, the company launched TVS King ZS, an all new green,
environmental friendly four stroke CNG auto rickshaw for New Delhi & NCR.
TVS King ZS is India's first 200 cc, four stroke, electric-start, CNG auto
rickshaw equipped with factory fitted CNG kit that delivers superior
performance. It is a futuristic product designed for today's cities and has
a good combination of `power, comfort, mileage and style.
The unique campaign for TVS Scooty Institute, a facility to train women in
tier two cities to ride, which had won many laurels this year including a
Globe at the MAA Award, metal at the PMAA's, the Abby's and Grand Emvie,
continued to get recognition. Mudra Max won the silver for the campaign in
consumer durables category at the Effie's 09 held during the month
