TVS Motor Company posts 13% growth in July 2008

Exports post 41% growth while motorcycles grow at 22%

TVS Motor Company has posted 13% growth registering total two wheeler sales of 118,545 units in July 2008 against 105,366 units in the corresponding period of the previous year.

During the month, the company's motorcycle sales posted 22% growth recording 54,042 units in comparison to 44,392 units recorded in July 2007. Sales witnessed a quantum increase with notable contributions from all models especially Apache RTR and StaR. Scooters recorded 24,156 units as against 23,841 units during the same period of the previous year.

The company crossed another milestone in its history when it rolled out its one millionth TVS Scooty Pep from its Mysore plant during July. The first TVS Scooty, a light and easy 60cc two-stroke scooterette was rolled out in November 1993 and crossed its million mark in the year 2004. Since inception, the brand has since been a classic case study for continuous refinement and consumer relevant product innovation.

During the month the company unveiled its feature rich TVS Apache RTR FI, thereby introducing fuel injection for the first time in the 160cc category. This bike offers riders the instant thrill and superior performance of a fuel injected 160cc engine and is packed with rich and innovative features including a blue backlit speedometer that introduces data logging for the first time in the category. Data pertaining to the last three zero to sixty timings and the last three top speeds are logged and displayed on the speedometer. The bike's new retractive tank scoop and open chain case gives it an even more racy cue.

Exports continued its upward growth trend, posting an increase of a 41% registering 16,015 units of two wheelers in June 2008 as against 11,395 units in the corresponding period of the previous year.
