TVS Motor Reports Revenues Of Rs. 924.74 Crore in Q1 Exports up by 50%
TVS Motor Company has reported revenue of
Rs. 924.74 crore for the quarter ended June 2008 compared to Rs. 801.56 crore
recorded during corresponding quarter in the previous year.
The figures for Profit before tax (PBT) and Profit after tax (PAT) during the
quarter under review stood at Rs. 10.02 crore and Rs. 7.02 crore respectively as
against Rs. 10.90 crore and Rs. 7.55 crore recorded in the corresponding period
last year. PBT for Q1 ended 30 June 2007 had the benefit of exceptional credit
(net) of Rs. 7.22 crore.
Motorcycles witnessed higher sales at 171,700 units during the first quarter
compared to 152,100 units over the previous period. Scooter sales however were
lower at 65,500 units in comparison to 70,200 units during the corresponding
quarter of the previous year. This was mainly due to disruption in the supply of
components by some of the tier II vendors. This has been corrected and the
company hopes to build on the Scooty brand excitement in the second quarter.
During the quarter, the company launched its offering for the two-wheeler
electric
market with the TVS Scooty Electric in March 2008 and as part of the
agreement with the All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC), the company launched
two excitingly designed, limited edition scooters, inspired by contemporary,
classic and sporty imagery of 'the Spirit of Wimbledon' in June 2008. Both
products have been well received in the market.
TVS Motor Company also launched its three-wheeler variants in Kerala.
In July, TVS Motor Company, unveiled its feature rich TVS Apache RTR FI
introducing fuel injection for the first time in the 160cc category. This bike
offers riders the instant thrill and superior performance of a fuel injected
160cc engine and is packed with rich and innovative features including a blue
backlit speedometer that introduces data logging for the first time in the
category. Data pertaining to the last three zero to sixty timings and the last
three top speeds are logged and displayed on the speedometer. The bike's new retractive tank scoop and open chain case gives it an even more racy cue.
The RTR FI is driven by a microprocessor consisting of an Electronic Control
Unit (ECU) made up of sensors, a fuel pump and an injector. The ECU receives the
data from sensors, processes it and delivers optimum fuel metering and ignition
timing. The bike top speeds at 120kmph, can reach 60kph in 4.8s and 100kph in
17.7s. Innovative technology, a powerful elegance in body design and superb ride
dynamics make the new Apache RTR FI the new showcase of technology.
With new launches in the two and three-wheeler segments, the company forecasts a
more positive growth in the second quarter.
EXPORTS :
During the first quarter ended June 2008, the company exported 42,500 two
wheelers recording a growth of 50% over the same period last year.
