TVS Motor Company's Two Wheeler Sales at 117,045 units; Exports continues upward trend posting 54% growth

TVS Motor Company registered total two wheeler sales of 117,045 units in March 2008 against 128,207 units in the corresponding period of the previous year. Exports posted a growth of around 54%.

During the month, the company's motorcycle sales stood at 60,908 units in comparison to 73,239 units recorded in March 2007. In the scooter segment, TVS Scooty recorded 15,942 units in March 2008 in comparison to 20,297 units in the corresponding period the previous year.

The company strengthened its presence in the executive segment with the launch of the TVS Flame 125cc motorcycle powered by three-valve, dual induction system, CCVTi engine. TVS Motor Company will also launch the fuel injection upgrade of the Apache RTR across the country in April 2008. With these launches, the company hopes to leverage on a wholesome product porftfolio to reverse the current trend in sales in the financial year 2008-2009.

The company also launched its three wheeler, the TVS King in LPG and Petrol Versions. TVS King is India’s first 200 cc two-stroke autorickshaw, loaded with superior features and equipped with electric start.

Exports reported sales of 13,070 units of two wheelers in March 2008 as against 8508 units in the corresponding period of the previous year thereby recording around 54% growth.

During the month, the company also won the prestigious Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) Excellence Award from Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance (JIPM) for its exemplary implementation of TPM processes in its Plant II in Hosur and its Mysore plant. The TPM Excellence Award is the most prestigious award presented to organizations, which have attained excellence in equipment performance.
