TVS Racing prides itself for having been at the forefront of two-wheeler racing in India. In our 35 year long journey, we have been instrumental in giving young racers a platform to showcase their skills, create a name for them, and make India proud in racing events of global repute.
TVS Racing was formed with the vision of translating the knowledge attained on the racetrack onto TVS Motor Company’s road-going machines. Staying true to its founding goal, over all these years, TVS Racing has provided invaluable insights and data to the engineers at TVS to create machines which hold their own in terms of performance, reliability and endurance. The sporty TVS Apache RTR series is a shining example of how the Racing division has helped create and hone some of the best performance motorcycles in the country.
It all started in 1983 when Sundaram Clayton, a TVS Group company created a 50cc moped for racing, which was capable of reaching a top speed of 105km/h – a speed that some of the biggest Indian motorcycles of that era couldn’t achieve. Since then, there has been no looking back, and TVS Racing has participated in and led all forms of motorcycle races in India and even at the international level. Be it Road Racing, Dirt Track Racing, Rally Racing, Moto Cross or Super Cross – TVS Racing is the definitive Indian team for all formats of competitive two-wheeler riding.
TVS Racing’s dominance in motorsport is evident with its impeccable record and win-percentage. From the period of 1988 to 1999, the team won 159 of the 185 events it participated in, with a win percentage of 85. If you think that’s amazing, the team went on to better that record from between 2000 to 2013 by winning 201 out of the 222 events it participated in, with a win percentage of 90.
From being the pioneers of racing in India, to being the first ever Indian team to participate in the formidable Dakar Rally, TVS Racing has always led the way on the motorsport scene. Breaking stereotypes, TVS Racing recruited the first woman racer in India – Shreya Iyer in early 2016. Over the past year, they also took the initiative to create the women racer’s team in India. In 2017, TVS Racing fielded it’s champion rider Aravind KP in the gruelling Dakar Rally and made a splash in the global motorsport arena.
The stories we have to tell are innumerable and the moments that made us proud are beyond the scope of a blog piece. What we can, however, do is share 10 rare images of with you here, which represents our journey in the most compelling manner possible. Check them all out!
