Blind spots are among the biggest dangers on the road that catch motorcyclists unaware. Since the motorcycle by itself is quite diminutive compared to other vehicles, it's easy for drivers of bigger vehicles on the road to totally miss spotting a motorcyclist. So, it's critical for motorcyclists to be aware of blind spots that drivers of bigger vehicles encounter on their everyday drives. Let's dive right into a few of these.
1. Truck drivers can't see what's right behind them. Do NOT tailgate a truck.
2. Drivers of buses, trucks and other heavy vehicles have big blind spots on their immediate left and right. If you, the motorcyclist, happen to find yourself on the immediate left and right of a heavy vehicle, either overtake the vehicle quickly, or brake and let the heavy vehicle pass you. Do NOT ride beside a heavy vehicle for an extended period of time. There is a very good chance that you'll find yourself in the blind spot of the heavy vehicle.
3. Reversing car drivers have multiple blind spots at the rear. So, if you - the motorcyclist - find yourself behind a reversing car, always honk till you catch the car's driver's attention.
4. It's never a good idea to park behind a car or a heavy vehicle. While reversing, it's very easy for a car or a truck driver to totally miss a motorcycle parked at the rear.
We will be back with exciting events after COVID-19.
