Running-in a motorcycle's engine: How to do it right?

Motorcycles are made of hundreds of moving parts, all of them brand new. The engine has the most moving parts in a motorcycle and requires specific care for it to last long and perform at an optimum level. To do this, you need to run in the motorcycle, or to be specific, run in the motorcycle's engine.
What is running-in of an engine?
Running-in or breaking-in is the process of allowing the various moving parts of the engine's internals to even out their imperfections. When engines are built, there are microscopic imperfections in the machining process that needs evening out. For example, pistons need to smoothly move up and down in the cylinders and form an effective oil seal between the piston rings and the cylinder wall to prevent wear and tear on the engine. For this to happen, running-in is essential.
How do you do this? It's very simple. Just follow the steps detailed below.
1. Warm-up. As soon as you start a new motorcycle, ensure that it idles for about 30 seconds before riding off.
2. After the 30 seconds warm-up, ride off gently, going through all the motorcycle's gears. For example, use the first gear till you reach 10 Kph, then shift to second gear till you reach say 20 Kph, use 3rd gear between 20-35 Kph, shift to 4th gear at 35 Kph and ride it till 50, and after 50 Kph, shift to 5th gear, and go up to say 60-70 Kph, and then slow down. Follow this riding style, and stick to the gear shifting speeds mentioned above. The idea is to allow the engine to experience various speeds: From idle to 4000-4500 rpm.
3. Do this till you clock 500 Kms.
4. After 500 Kms, you can increase speeds by 20 % for the next 250 kms. At 750 Kms, you can increase speed by another 20 % in each gear for another 250 Kms.
5. Once you reach 1000 Kms by following this process, you would have run your engine in.
Note: You need to constantly vary the speed of the engine while running in. Constantly varying the rpm is easy to achieve in city conditions, where vehicle speeds are constantly changing. On the highway, it's easy to settle at a steady speed. Don’t do this for a new engine, as it needs to bed in effectively at various rpm levels.
We will be back with exciting events after COVID-19.
