So, you've decided to bring home your favourite TVS Apache motorcycle - the stunning Apache RR 310. You intend to use it for many purposes - from commuting to office on the weekdays to touring on the weekends and hitting the racetrack occasionally. Sounds great, but have you thought about the stuff you need to carry on your motorcycle and the ways to go about that? Here's a quick primer: 1. Hard luggage. These are generally made of plastic or aluminum, with a stiff outer surface usually mounted at the back of the motorcycle. These include top-boxes, side panniers and tail boxes. Most offer good weather resistance with many options also being fully waterproof. The disadvantage of hard luggage is that they require custom mounting solutions and are considerably heavier than soft luggage options. 2. Soft luggage. These are made of leather, rexine or plastic, have a flexible outer surface, and sit on the tank, tail, and sides. While most offer a modicum of weather resistance, waterproof ones are costlier. While saddlebags may require saddle stays, most other soft luggage solutions do not need specific mounting solutions and are offered with securing straps that fit nearly all motorcycles. What luggage solution should you opt for? In the case of multi-week tours, you may consider a combination of hard and soft luggage options. For city riding, all you generally require is a top box, which can accommodate your helmet and a few odds and ends. For highway riding, opt for soft luggage such as a tank bag, tail bag and saddle bags if you're going on longer tours. f you decide to hit the track, opting for soft luggage while you get to the racetrack is a better bet as you can quickly untie luggage and get your TVS Apache RR 310 track ready.
