Bike Storage for a Long time: All You Need to Know

With lockdown after lockdown, bikes might remain stationary for weeks, if not months. And with the monsoons just around the corner, a parked motorcycle can develop multiple issues if not stored properly. With this, let's launch straight into motorcycle storage tips.
1. Just before you decide to park or store your motorcycle for an extended period of time, you need to give it a thorough wash, let it dry completely, and then apply a layer of polish so that the painted surfaces stay well protected. If your motorcycle's chain needs lubing, don't forget to do that, especially if you live on the coast where the weather can cause excess corrosion.
2. If you have a carbureted motorcycle, it's a good idea to drain fuel out of the carburetor and move the fuel cock to off position.
3. Disconnecting the battery terminals while the motorcycle is not in use is a good idea. A better idea is to get a battery tender that will ensure that the battery is in optimum health even after a few months of storage.
4. Put the motorcycle onto the center stand if your bike has one. If your bike doesn't have a center stand, you can put it on a paddock stand. Also, inflate tyres to slightly higher than recommended pressures so that you don't have a flat spot with the bike standing for a long time.
5. Get a high-quality motorcycle cover to protect your bike from the elements. Also, preferably park in an area that has some weather proofing.
6. If you plan to leave your motorcycle idle for over 6 months, you'll need fresh engine oil when you come back. Make arrangements accordingly.
We will be back with exciting events after COVID-19.
