Participation Dakar 2015

The bike has been developed and manufactured at Sherco Motorcycles specially for Dakar 2015. It is more Competitive, lightweight, and equipped with a highly reliable 450cc engine. Engineers from TVS will be working alongside the team from Sherco at Dakar 2015.

Dakar motorcycle RTR 450

The bike is light and very powerful. The 450cc power plant produces around 60 hp. Major focus is given to achieve ultra light weight and minimise friction. The team has developed an engine with improved torque on entire rpm range. Modified port cross section, redesigned cam shaft, increased compression ratio and re-tuned ECM have helped to give better performance. Results of Engine test rig and rider’s subjective feedback is found to be superior compared to previous year’s rally motorcycles.

  • For easy vehicle manoeuvrability the fuel mass has been distributed in two fuel tanks in front and one in the rear. The fuel from rear tank is transferred, as and when required, to the front tanks using an in-built pump easily operated by the rider.
  • Rally special tyres and puncture proof Michelin Bib Mousse tubes. A Bib Mousse is a foam ring insert that takes the place of a regular air-filled tube. The closed cells of the butyl honeycomb foam are filled with nitrogen gas. This arrangement eliminates the problem of non completion in the race due to unforeseen puncture issues of an air inflated tube.
  • Front and rear Suspension is extensively tuned for the riders and rally route requirements.
  • Thicker spokes in front and rear wheel assembly.
  • Carbon fiber new design fairings.
  • Intricate navigational equipment is very securely mounted on the handlebars. The riders have to be really good at the tasks, riding and navigation. He should be able to memorise cautions while riding fast to save the bike as well as himself from a crash.
  • A mandatory water tank with 5 liters capacity, made in carbon fiber, is mounted below the engine in the front. This drinkable water is useful in emergent situations when the rider is lost (due to his mistake in navigation) in desert and can save him from de-hydration.
