TVS Apache - Born of Racing Lineage – TVS Motor

The racing heritage that TVS Motor has become synonymous with began on a very humble note. Back in 1982, when Sundaram Clayton Limited (A TVS Group Company) introduced its 50 cc moped in the arena of road racing, it clocked an unbelievable speed of 105 km/h. From that moment on, TVS Motor has never looked back. Motivated to outdo ourselves, we have relentlessly innovated and engineered race machines that push the envelope.

Over the years, the TVS Racing vertical has supplied valuable data and excellent design inputs for the development of reliable race machines. In 2022, TVS Motor has struck a partnership with gas and oil giant Petronas, resulting in the newly rebranded PETRONAS TVS Racing Team. Much like TVS Racing, Petronas has a strong racing history, and is augmenting the track expertise that we have onboard.

All the graft has now borne fruit - TVS Racing has emerged as an undisputed two-wheeler leader and set a record in the 2023 TVS Asia One Make championship, clocking a new top speed of 215 km/h, the motorcycle helping break the record has been a race-spec TVS Asia OMC RR 310 based on the road-going 2023 Apache RR 310 model.

Track to Road Philosophy

With a rich history and sheer dominance in two-wheeler motorsport, TVS Racing has been instrumental in flourishing the race culture in India and abroad and has been pivotal in engineering the TVS Apache series through the company. The same philosophy has been brought down to one of the best sellers of the company - the TVS Apache RTR 160 series.

In 2019, we introduced TVS Apache RTR 160 with facelift iteration, improvement in form of adjustable suspension, better braking and first-in-segment ride modes. Ultimately, the much-awaited 2021 TVS Apache RTR 160 4V was launched that churned out some extra horsepower and torque, making the bike outpace all its segment rivals.

From Good to Great

The current-gen TVS Apache RTR 160 4V 2023 model gets an all-LED headlight and tail lamp setup, while also ditching the semi-digital console with an analogue tachometer for a fully-digital unit. Further, the top trim variants BT Disc and TVS Apache RTR 160 4V Special editions get SmartXonnect integration, adjustable clutch and brake levers, gear shift indicator, radial tyres and new colours.

The bike also features redesigned lightweight Bullpup exhaust in the new special edition that offers weight reduction and enhances the signature RTR exhaust note with refined power delivery. For improved handling, the bike also gets fatter, stickier TVS Remora tyres at the rear.

The practical ergonomics and compact design of the Apache help it filter through the narrowest of the gaps in traffic with ease, which is where the first-in-segment GTT (Glide Through Technology) comes into the picture. With timely updates, including new and modern track and tech-focused features, the TVS Apache RTR 160 2V/4V 2023 bike continues to strike a chord with riders.
